President's Message

Last year we introduced a new draws format to give teams more opportunities to move between grades and to have closer games. The clubs have expressed their satisfaction with this format, and it will therefore remain for the 2010 season..

Because the Under 11 grade has many primary schools as clubs, we have changed the minimum requirement for clubs and teams allowing less than three teams to constitute a club. We would eventually hope that these school teams will combine with some of our clubs to save administration time and effort.

It was a pleasure last year to welcome New World as the sponsor of our Premier 1 grade, as well as the sponsor of the Fair Play awards for our junior grades, and the Volunteers awards of which four per week were presented.

We thank the Canterbury Community Trust for their financial support for the Future Ferns netball and the development of further programmes for our umpires and bench officials so grass roots netball can progress at all levels. The Eureka trust also supported our representative programme. Assistance from Gloucester Sports Clinic, Victoria Food Service, More FM, Lewthwaite and Associates, and the Canterbury Sports Foundation is also very much appreciated.

Our representative team coaches, managers and selectors worked extremely hard with our representative teams last year with varied successes. This is the pathway for our talented players to work through to the top of their chosen sport of netball.

Our Netball Development Co-ordinator, Kirsten Hill has worked with such enthusiasm in all aspects of the role during the year to progress our game and Megan McLay our administrator works tirelesslyin this position to assist us all for the betterment of the game.

The Executive works tirelessly throughout the year to ensure Christchurch Netball continues to progress and lead in all aspects of the amateur game. I am proud to be associated with the sport and the way this Centre supports all levels of our game.
