Kia ora Koutou
Please find included below the latest Netball New Zealand community newsletter.
It provides information on what NNZ and the Zones are doing to provide opportunities for our community during the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as the sharing of stories.
Access it here: Click here. Newsletter 2 does include information on umpire exams. Clarification is included in our information below.
There are two important attachments to the latest NNZ advisory:
Play Recreation and Sport (Level 1-4): Click here.
NNZ Community Netball COVID-19 Guidelines: Click here.
It is important to clarify that both of these documents are living documents and content and detail may change.
Netball is currently classified as a contact sport and until it is defined otherwise for all intents and purposes will remain referred to as a ‘contact’ sport. Therefore it is not able to be played under current guidelines until New Zealand goes to Level 1. It is important to clarify that Level 2 at this stage is a preparation stage.
It is important that the following line is interpreted as it is intended.
'Non-contact team trainings are allowed with a focus on preparation for return to play.' This means that skills and fitness sessions are permitted where all other protocols including distancing are adhered to. There is no ball work allowed, other than perhaps by a shooter who is the only person in contact with a single ball.
Workshops (such as coach and umpire workshops) are allowed under Level 2, again where appropriate protocols are observed. And we are also aware that NNZ will be offering through Centres online workshops in the near future. There are some very good resources available online via NetballSmart and NetFit which you may wish to encourage your club members to participate in.
We appreciate the opportunity to be able to keep in touch. Clubs are currently providing us feedback through a Preparation for Season 2020 survey which will provide more data and information for planning purposes.
