We are very pleased to share that two of CNC's current board members, Warren Poh and Leonie Rae are now Chartered Members of the Institute of Directors.
We asked both of them about this and what it means.
CNC: What does is mean to be appointed as a Chartered Member of the Institute of Directors?
WP: I’m proud to have completed this first step in acknowledging competence in governance journey, this was a goal I set a number of years ago when I began my journey so it’s great to have achieved it.
LR: It means I now have the recognition that I have the necessary skills to provide governance on boards
CNC: Can you describe the pathway taken to achieve chartered membership?
WP: I have been involved in governance for over 20 years. From University Clubs and Societies through to industry bodies to Regional Sporting Organisations. And now most recently the University of Canterbury, Christchurch Netball Centre and School Boards.
LR: I attended the directors course back in 2018 and then subsequently passed the essay and exam - but it was challenging with a heavy workload. It was very worthwhile, however. The directors course provides training and learning that can be translated into my day job.
CNC: Describe your current role on the CNC Board.
WP: I am currently the Deputy Chair for CNC. I assist the Chair with a number of her duties and as a general board member. I also am a Director of the new Netball Centre.
LR: I like to think I bring my management experience and people leadership skills to the table.
CNC: What does a facility mean to netball in Christchurch?
WP: A new facility is an enabler for a modern and enjoyable netball programme to benefit all stakeholders of CNC (and beyond). This community facility will benefit both netballers and other organisations (sporting or otherwise) with more indoor space in Christchurch.
LR: The facility will help us in bringing netball into the modern era and provide a fit for purpose indoor environment for our players.
CNC: What are the next steps for you?
WP: I am looking to continue to work closely with the CNC Board on the indoor facility and to secure the future of CNC for another 100 years. I want to continue to broaden and explore my governance career.
