About Mere
Mere Matenga has been recognised by CNC as Cadbury Volunteer for the month of June. Here she is at training last night after being presented a box of goodies from Cadbury.
In Mere's words:
My name is Mere Matenga with a background of sport coaching experience of nearly 20 years. Definitely before all of you were born! I was already on my way to learn and grow as a coach with passion and the desire to make better changes for every player.
What you expect from me as a coach - To be prepared and organised. The training programmes where drills are set to focus on building skills in strength and conditioning, delivery of the ball and receiving techniques, styles of footwork, variety of attacking moves, defensive cues and quick setups, shooting with attacking moves in the goal circle. Building fitness levels through muscular strength, endurance and flexibility. This will improve agility, balance, coordination, power, quick decision making and speed. Lastly education on all playing positions and game strategies.
Team building is very important ,where we will learn from our trainings and games to encourage and develop a team bond where we all respect each other’s strengths, efforts and characteristics to make this team a better team as this becomes enjoyable and rewarding to see good connections needed to support each other.
My personal favourite is to build on confidence where this gift is received when you accept this and work from the start to grow self discipline through hard work, accepting your strengths and weaknesses and most of all - always protecting your confidence to endure the challenges that always face you with readiness.
As the coach, it is expected that you come to trainings and your games with attention, where listening is important to practice discipline, enjoyment to put effort into your work of development and leave trainings and games feeling you have achieved in learning and growing your skills and knowledge in this sport of netball.
I could only hope that you all as a team will enjoy what there is to offer and to be connected to your new team. It is exciting and the rewards do come at it’s due time.
