This week Christchurch Netball welcomes Alex Ivory to the team, in the role of Programme Coordinator.
Alex is an advocate for removing barriers to participation in sport. She will lead programmes that grow the reach of our game, given the benefits of participation for positive mental health and wellbeing.
Alex’s focus is on growing and enhancing inclusive programmes including No Limits, Walking Netball, Nettabury, school activations, and holiday programmes. She will be a key player in making sure opportunities hosted by the Netball Sports Centre are highly accessible and equitable.
“Our team is committed to making sure more people every year can access the benefits of being active and connected, through netball and beyond,” says Christchurch Netball General Manager Angela Pryor.
Alex holds a Bachelor of Sports Coaching from the University of Canterbury and a Level 6 Diploma in Sport, Recreation, and Exercise from the New Zealand Institute of Sport. Her diverse sporting career includes experience as a sports medic, swim instructor, fitness club manager, and women’s football team manager. Additionally, she has volunteered as a coach across multiple sports and interned as a primary school and disability activator.
These experiences contributed to her passion for breaking down barriers to participation and building relationships across the community.
Alex is looking forward to learning from the experience of our Christchurch Netball members and clubs. She is committed to extending Christchurch Netball’s commitment to accessibility and inclusion, by considering ways that new programmes can appeal to our diverse communities.
“By working closely with partners who share our vision, Alex will take the benefits of netball and being active to more communities and whānau,” says Christchurch Netball General Manager Angela Pryor.
“Alex has a proven ability to forge positive partnerships. She brings an exciting mix of experience, plus a positive energy that will make her an asset to our community.”
