Representative team finishes third at Nationals

Christchurch’s Under 19 representative team has finished third at the National Age Group Championships in Nelson.

Christchurch was one of eight teams not to lose a game on day one with commanding wins over Northern Wairoa (56-13) and Taranaki (51-20) and on Tuesday were clinical over top seeds in the group Dunedin 45-23.

The team earnt the right to play Hamilton in the 1 to 8 play off round and weren’t troubled, winning comfortably 45-18, with a number of players taking the court.

The team faced a highly fancied Wellington side in the top four semi-final. One quarter proved the difference with Wellington coming away with the win 37-31.

The team was untroubled in their ¾ playoff against Waitakere winning 43-27 and ending the campaign on a high.

The team is delighted with the result having finished 7th last year and will take the third place ranking in to next year’s Nationals.

The Under 17 representative teams will be on home ground next week as both A and B teams compete at their National Age Group Championships to be held at the North Canterbury Netball Centre in Rangiora.
