Christchurch Girls High School qualified for the New Zealand Secondary Schools (NZSS) competition in Timaru courtesy of third place finish at South Island Secondary Schools. They will be in Pool B, with their opening game against Sacred Heart on Tuesday at 1.00pm. Live scoring will be available: Click here
We caught up with Coach Chloe Williamson ahead of a big week of netball for her CGHS team.
CNC: The netball season has been over for a few weeks now. What have you done to prepare for NZSS?
CW: After South Islands we gave the girls a week off to refresh and since then have been training 3 times a week and have played practice games against Villa Maria and other invitational teams, to help us prepare for Nationals.
CNC: Have any of your team experienced NZSS or a tournament like this before?
CW: Yes. Last year was the first year in a while that CGHS have headed to Nationals so we have 6 girls in the team who have already experienced this tournament.
CNC: What teams will you be facing in your opening pool games?
In our pool games we are playing Saint Kentigern, Manukura and Sacred Heart.
CNC: Who do expect to be the hardest opposition (pool round) and why?
CW: We are aware that all games will be hard. We will possibly find Manakura a tough team due to the fact they won the Lower North Island competition.
CNC: What do you think will be the biggest challenge during the Tournament?
CW: The biggest challenge for us will possibly be adjusting to a different style of game being played. With the North Islanders playing a different style, our girls will have to adjust and adapt on court quickly, whilst also playing our own game.
CNC: Describe your team in three words ...
CW: Fun, Fit and Determined!
