Premier competition match report - Technical v Saints (By Terri Carlson)

Technical dominated this game from the outset. Showing off well formed combinations in both attack and defence, Technical were able to start their season strong. Technical played quite a wide attacking game using the width of the court. This made the court look very open and Technical attackers were able to drive hard into the open space. Lucy Gunn (Saints GK) had a beautiful lean over the shot, however this did not affect Technical attack who both shot accurately. Saints did have their moments where the ball flowed nicely through court. Passing was quite snappy and the timing was on. Shooters struggled to get past the long arms of Louise Thayer however (Technical GD) and Technical GK took most of the rebounds. Technical took the first quarter 18-4.

Technical comes out strong again second quarter and gets a run on, scoring the first eight goals. Technical just too quick on attack using only flat passes to get the ball down the court. Hannah Poff (Saints WA) connects well with Anna Kennedy (Saints GA) and they manage to work the ball through a tight defence. Technical is just too strong however and force a few turnovers, which they manage to score from quickly. Technical wins the quarter 35-11.

Coming into the second half of the game Technical is well in truly in control, leading by 24 goals. Saints undeterred, still work hard throughout the quarter, but struggle to score from turnover ball. Liv Clark makes a big impact coming on as GS for Technical and holds beautiful space under the goal. Also undeterred by Lucy Gunn’s lean (Saints GK) she shoots 15 of Technical’s 25 goals for this quarter, ending the quarter with Technical ahead 60-18.

Technical starts the last quarter with the same speed and intensity they started with. Using speed of the ball Technical easily manages to get the ball down. Timing on the drive is right allowing attackers to turn and pass. Technical defence played a good game shutting down options and forcing Saints to shoot from distance. Towards the end of the quarter Technical dropped the intensity they started with and started making a few personal errors, which Saints managed to score from. Technical came away with a big win and a great start to the season 76-26.
