We caught up with Umpire Natasha Fraser to see how she was coping with lockdown and maintaining her fitness.
CNC: How are you keeping active at home?
NF: I have been having a change-up in the workouts that I'm doing, using a whole bunch of the online workout classes to keep me active. Les Mills on TVNZ on demand is fantastic and I have loved doing Body Attack 3/4 times a week. I have been following Han Romano and her live workouts on Instagram and Facebook, alongside Studio Box on Instagram too. NetballSmart also has a great variety of at-home exercises that we got from Hannah at Netball Mainland that are using bodyweight for core and strength exercises that you can do at home. A real mixture of high-intensity HIIT, cardio and strength classes. I have done a couple of yoga sessions which have been great for recovery and stretching out the muscles. I have been trying to do a workout and a walk every day, helping to keep me sane!
CNC: Do you workout to music and what are your favourite tunes?
NF: I love working out to music! I don't really have a favourite tune, anything that has a good rhythm and is upbeat. I love to work out to a bit of Lizzo though!
CNC: Do you have any tips on keeping motivated?
NF: I love having routine so I normally do my workouts at the same time every day which isn't super early, normally around 11-12 and then an afternoon walk. Since my sisters and I aren't in the same bubble we have been facetiming and doing the Les Mills Body Attack which is great way to keep me motivated rather than doing it all by myself. I've been trying to not workout by myself, having my partner and flatmate workout with me to keep me accountable and push myself.
CNC: What do you like to eat before and after a session?
NF: I'm not a huge eater. Before a session, I normally have cornflakes and yoghurt or a banana. After a session, I normally mix it up with a banana, bagel or something with carbs in it.
CNC: What’s the best meal you’ve cooked during lockdown?
NF: I have perfected my homemade lasagne which may not sound like a lot but I'm not a fan of cooking at all 😂
CNC: Have you learnt anything new during lockdown?
NF: During the lockdown, I have learnt lots about myself and how it is okay not to be busy all the time! In terms of new skills, I'd have to say my baking and cooking skills have improved significantly learning new recipes to bake and cook. As a teacher, I am learning about teaching my students online for the next couple of weeks, a big change in education!
Thanks Tash! It's always great to hear what everyone is up to. Tash is also one of the umpires sharing her tips on the group page for registered Christchurch Netball Umpires.
