CNC talks to Club President Sarah Heath about the amalgamation of Hearts and St Peters to form 'The Saints' - one year on
What was the motivation behind the amalgamation of The Hearts Club and The St Peters Club?
Motivation was club survival. Between St Peters and Hearts, we had too much history to lose. But both clubs had dwindling numbers. Hearts had teams in different areas from St Peters, so we went together really well.
We established a committee of both club members and ensured we had both clubs full backing.
What have been the main benefits of the amalgamation?
The main result is that we had more teams this year and will have teams to play next year. The club is still on the netball scene!
Tell us a little about your first season as a new club and your results?
This first season was hard work. We did not have any down time, as we had to develop, name, logo, uniform etc, all prior to the season starting. We called up alot of favours, fundraised and had an awesome committee who believed in what we were doing.
We had some great results for our first season. Our premier team placed 4th in the championship round indoors and our B team were runners up in the Senior 1 final.
Please tell us about the new uniform, it's design and inspiration ....
The uniform had to stand out, it had to be feminine, but practical, but more importantly different from any other club playing on the courts. We needed a logo to stand out and tie in with our name, hence the wings. We decided we needed to keep both names in the new club, but used Saints to ensure we all shouted the same chant.
Now everyone knows we have survived our first season, it can only get better. When we advertise out trials next season, people will know who we are!
Without the support of CNC the first season would not have happened so smoothly. May we take this opportunity to thank you for your belief that we could make it work.
